Blog 358: Cold Feet

cold feeet

We all watch movies where we see the groom bottle it and get cold feet just before he gets to the altar. He gets cold feet. There are other examples of life when there are cold feet too, it can be winter, it can be a job interview, it can be scared of having a baby. There can be so many things that can make us get cold feet and it is how we deal with it that is important. When we get cold feet, how do we cope and what do we put in place to help us to get through the cold feet period? There are a lot of people who get cold feet when you mention the word marriage and a lot of people do not think it is for them and so they decide to cohabit. However, I believe that marriage should happen when you know you want to spend the rest of your life with a certain person. You have to be honest with how you are feeling and whether you want to get married with the other person or not. It is best to talk about it how your future looks before the relationship gets too far down the line because it is best not to be heartbroken.

There are many people in this world that do not get married because they have cold feet about the whole situation. There are many reasons why people should get married, children feel safer, there is a good support system, they have a good example from both their parents, it works well for both the children and for the couple. It is important to embrace true love and commitment to you spouse and your family. It is important that we consider other people and not just ourselves, we need to think about other people, we need to think about our spouse and our children. In doing this we will feel better about or marriage and shouldn’t just give up over a small thing. There are a lot of people who give up on their marriage when they hit a rocky patch, they get cold feet and instead of trying to work it through they just give up.

Whatever you are going through now and will go through don’t give up, don’t give up on the future, don’t give up on your children, don’t give up on your spouse and certainly don’t give up on your marriage. There will be hard times and there will be easy times, times when you want to give up but don’t quit but keep fighting for your marriage and not fight in your marriage. Show your children that you are able to have a good marriage and the only way to do this is to do it through example. Talk to your children about your marriage, show them ways that they are able to get through the tough times and they can get through the easy times too. Hopefully because of this they won’t get cold feet and they will be able to be married to the person that they fully trust and fully love. Everyone is able to have a full intact marriage of their own but it takes time to work on it and it takes a lot of talking through the things that is hard. Don’t stop talking, communication is the key to any success especially marriage.

If you are married already don’t give up on your spouse and if you are not married sorry to pop your bubble you will not find someone who is totally perfect. The other person will be perfect for you but they will still have faults and there will still be things that need to be worked out. There will be times when you will need to work on things and to talk about things. You should be happy to talk to your partner about your intimate things and the things that are bothering you. This is important to do when you are first dating because then you will be able to see how they react and what they are like. There will be times in your life when you have cold feet about your relationship, your children, your family and your spouse but you need to talk about it and know that things will get better if you are willing for that to happen.

When we want to give and when we think that we are not able to get through it and do not have the strength that we need we can fully rely on God and the strength that He gives us. We can talk to Him, we can rely on Him, we can come to Him through the day and through the night. Times will be tough but through everything we can come to Him and know His full love for us. His love is not conditional and it does not depend on how we feel but instead on our trust that we have for Him. Are you willing not to get cold feet on Jesus but to fully trust in Him?
